Chevrolet Helps to Spread Holiday Cheer with Bear Necessities

In the spirit of holiday joy and giving, the Illinois Chevy: Your Mission. Our Drive. program teamed up with the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation for its annual Holiday Party in Cook County. The event was held at Cook County Hospital in Chicago on Thursday, Dec. 16, where more than 150 patients of the Pediatric Oncology Department and their families gathered for a special holiday celebration.

Bear Necessities was founded in 1992 by Kathleen A. Casey and her son Barrett “Bear” Krupa, an eight year old with a big heart, on a mission to help other children battling pediatric cancer and their families. Although, Barrett lost his battle to cancer in 1993, the organization has continued to have a tremendous impact on thousands of patients and families. Currently, Bear Necessities funds pediatric cancer research and support services for basic needs, offering patients comfort and courage.

In support of this year’s holiday celebration, the Chevy Missions team provided a Silverado Hybrid and Express Van which were used to haul toys and food donated for the event. With the help of Chevrolet, Bear Necessities was able to transport more than 300 toys for children and deliver 60 bags of packaged food for families.

The event festivities included lunch, entertainment, a present for every child and parting gifts such as non-perishable food items for each family. The celebration brought holiday cheer into the lives of dozens of children battling pediatric cancer.

The Bear Necessities staff was incredibly grateful for the Chevrolet vehicles and expressed the utmost appreciation for its support.

“Chevy Missions has been amazing in making this day possible,” said NelliRose Farella, Director of Programs for Bear Necessities. The cars were wonderful!”

The Illinois Chevy: Your Mission. Our Drive. program recently supported the March of Dimes, Illinois Chapter’s annual Signature Chefs Auction. The event was held at the Swissotel Hotel in Chicago on Wednesday, Nov. 3 to help raise funds for the organization.

The March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that aims to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The organization has been a leader in discovering the genetic causes of birth defects and educating others on the best practices for healthy pregnancy.

In support of the fundraiser, the Chevy Missions team provided ten vehicles - including five Chevrolet Traverses, and one Malibu, Tahoe, Suburban, Buick Enclave and Lacrosse which were used to shuttle event attendees throughout the evening.

The Signature Chefs Auction was attended by more than 600 supporters. All attendees were treated to food tastings hosted by Chicago’s top chefs and had the opportunity to participate in silent and live auctions. In total, the event raised more than $400,000 for the March of Dimes.

All of the March of Dimes staff and volunteers were thankful for Chevrolet’s involvement.

Chevrolet Teams Up with the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue to Raise Funds for Man’s Best Friend

The Illinois Chevy: Your Mission. Our Drive. program recently supported the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue (CEBR) for their annual Bully Bash fundraiser. Chevrolet provided four vehicles for the event (two Traverses and two Express vans), which was held in Oswego, IL on Sunday, Oct. 17.  Vehicles – which were loaned to CEBR staff and other volunteers – were used to transport supplies and materials for the event.

The CEBR is a nonprofit organization that has been rescuing English bulldogs for three years in Chicago and surrounding areas. The organization’s services provide exceptional diet, veterinary care and behavioral evaluations for all bulldogs that enter in the rescue.

The Bully Bash was attended by more than 300 Chicagoland bulldog owners. Participants had the opportunity to enter their dogs in a rescue parade, costume contest and agility course. Several bulldog boutiques were also onsite offering spa treatments and grooming supplies for the animals. Additionally, Chevrolet hosted a photo fundraiser – for every owner who posed by the Chevrolet Silverado with their bulldog, Chevrolet donated $10 to CEBR.

“We are thankful for the Chevy vehicles that helped us with this event,” said Molly Marino, President of CEBR. “The vehicles were able to save us enough money to pay for the medical bills of at least two dogs who come through our rescue.”

Chevrolet Supports the 10th Annual Flatwater Classic to Help Raise Awareness for the Chicago River

In an effort to raise awareness about the conditions of the Chicago River and its available resources, Cheverolet supported Friends of the Chicago River at the 10th Annual Flatwater Classic Canoe and Kayak Race. On Sunday, Oct. 3, the Illinois Chevy: Your Mission. Our Drive. program provided four Chevrolet vehicles for the event where paddlers traveled more than seven miles on the Chicago River ending at Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chicago, Ill.  Four vehicles were loaned to assist Friends of the Chicago River’s staff and volunteers in transporting materials for the event, as well as hauling supplies to checkpoints throughout the race.

This year’s Flatwater Classic had more than 400 participants including outdoor, canoe and kayak enthusiasts as well as recreational paddlers. Participants were able to see first hand why the river is a vital part of the Chicago community and how enjoyable water recreation can be on the river.

Through the help of the the Illinois Chevy: Your Mission. Our Drive. program, Chevrolet vehicles were used to haul set-up materials for the event as well as transport supplies to checkpoints along the course. Four volunteers had an opportunity to drive 2010 Chevrolet vehicles, including: two Traverses, one Silverado Hybrid, and an Express passenger van.

Friends of the Chicago River employees, volunteers and participants graciously thanked Chevrolet for supporting the Flatwater Classic.

“We had carloads and carloads of supplies and materials for this event. The Chevy trucks and SUVs made it easier on us because we didn’t have to use our small cars,”  said Suellen Burns, Friends of the Chicago River director of development. “We are really excited about this partnership!”
